My Kick-Ass Back Cover Description:
A Titanic romance meets supernatural suspense in this Christian Edwardian fantasy.
In the heart of Edwardian Belfast, where steam and steel shape legends at the Harland & Wolff shipyards, Richard Pierce uses his extraordinary gift as an Influencer to unearth secrets and expose the truth. Able to sense and stir the emotions of others and then compel them toward better choices, Richard serves justice alongside his closest allies: shipbuilder Thomas Andrews and Reverend John Harper. But as the RMS Titanic nears completion, fate introduces a new mystery: Isabel, a bold, beautiful suffragette with secrets buried deeper than her charm reveals.
Drawn to each other by more than curiosity, Richard and Isabel are thrust into a gripping mystery involving a murdered enchantress, a dangerous grimoire, and a dark force that stalks the shadows of high society. As their journey leads them aboard the Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage, Richard encounters a deadly foe, a Siren, whose seductive power could enslave his very soul. For the first time, his gift may not be enough.
As whispers of betrayal grow louder and peril closes in, Richard and Isabel must choose whether to trust one another with the truth, and their hearts, before the icy Atlantic claims more than just lives.
Perfect for fans of romantic mysteries, Christian fantasy, and alternate history, this thrilling novel combines paranormal intrigue, forbidden love, and spiritual warfare, set against the grandeur and tragedy of the Titanic. A must-read for readers of Frank Peretti, Deeanne Gist, and Downton Abbey with a supernatural twist.

The Story Behind the Story

At sixteen years old, I wrote a Titanic novel called Destined for Disaster, then put it into a drawer and focused on other projects. But it had a hero named Richard Pierce, and when I went looking for a way to infuse a Titanic adventure with magic, he walked into my presence again and suggested I use him. I did. This handsome, blue-eyed, black-haired man became someone with the gift of sensing the truth in others and influence them to make decisions. A power that has to be wielded with care, since it would be easy to abuse.
I blended fact and fantasy into a tale that begins in Belfast, with the launch of Titanic from her moorings. I used it as an excuse to hang out at Harland & Wolff, and to spend a great deal of time with Thomas Andrews, her designer and, here, one of Richard’s dearest friends. Along with his friend Harper, he deals with demons and other creatures that take up residence in local houses, but encounters something that rattles him to his core.
Because Titanic has been done so often, I wanted a different take on it, something magical, to find a jewel of hope amid the incredible loss and darkness of that fateful night. So, spiritual gifts bloomed in each of my characters, but I also explore the nature of the divine and of questions like, are we fated to be evil? What happens to souls once they leave bodies? I feel the result is a powerful and fun novel all about truth, lies, and the spaces in-between.
